Doug Webb
Sanford, Florida
Doug built the Hobby Boss 1/48 scale F-111D/E out of the box, except for the nose art, an aftermarket throwback to the B-17 era. He finished the aircraft with AK Interactive Real Colors lacquers and Flory washes.
Michael Epstein
Prairie Village, Kansas
Michael’s AFV Club 1/35 scale Type 128 Schwimmwagen Prototype represents one of only 30 of the Type 128 built and used throughout the war. He described it as a straightforward build using references for a Schwimmwagen that could have heading for the Ardennes Forest in time for Bastogne. Michael placed a sign pointing to Bastogne on the Schwimmwagen’s right, added Fluvial Topography by Model Scene, trees, and leaf debris to a homemade base.
Michael Raphaelovich
Andover, Kansas
For this build, Michael combined a Revell 1/25 scale Kenworth K-100 with an AMT 1/25 scale tanker.
Mike Walston
Sarasota, Florida
Mike converted the AMT 1/94 scale Limited Edition chrome plated B-Wing kit into a solar sail racing yacht that he calls Sunjammer. He made the sails from transparency film, printed with graphic details designed on CorelDraw. The corporate sponsor logos you may recognize from various sci-fi franchises were printed on water-slide decal paper.
Tom Dougherty
Ayer, Massachusetts
Tom built the Iron Shipwrights 1/350 scale USS Seawolf (SSN-575), the second U.S. nuclear submarine built, with a resin hull and 3D-printed details. This sub initially went to sea with a liquid sodium-cooled nuclear reactor, which, due to many technical problems, was replaced with a water-cooled reactor after two years. Seawolf was later lengthened and converted to a Special Projects Ocean Engineering submarine. Tom says that drawings of the Seawolf were included to help modify the stern to the correct configuration, a feature absent in earlier kits.
