It’s back, the Revell 1/25 scale ’57 Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon 2’n1 plastic model kit in yet another version. This time around, Revell offers you the option of factory-stock or street-machine builds. The street machine variant comes with all newly tooled custom parts with plenty of choices to make the model your own.

Inside the box is a 16-page instruction book with color callouts throughout and a paint guide with Revell color references. All 197 parts are listed, and if you’re looking for extras, this kit is a gift for your spares.

The first seven steps show you how to build the 312 engine: stock, custom, or even supercharged. (Does this make it a 3’n1 kit?) No matter the road you choose, the instructions make engine assembly an easy process. The parts exhibit almost no flash, and the V8 definitely stands out when finished.

This one is next level when we talk about what makes a well-detailed kit. The chassis and frame come separately, and the engine falls in place. The separate dual exhausts add realism, and the newly tooled front and rear suspensions give you the option for stock or lowered ride heights. A two-piece gas tank continues to provide excellent details. When complete, the underside had no molded-on parts, and it’s apparent.

The Del Rio’s interior appears mainly stock. The 1950s gave us plenty of detailed trim and seat patterns to choose from. Separate seats, side panels, and dash with no inner tub to navigate ease detail painting. The custom steering wheel and the decal for the speedometer are a nice touch.

When completing the chassis, be sure to follow the installation processes for the firewall, upper and lower radiator hoses, and the radiator and support. Go out of order and you’re asking for trouble. You have two options for wheels and tires: steelies with stock hub caps and tires or custom wheels and tires.

On the mostly stock body, the windows drop in place, and the hood fits well. You can dress up the front end with a custom tubular grille or choose the stock option, and you can go with stock or smooth bumpers. Lastly, you’ll place trim and door handles to bring an exceptional build to a close.

Definitely for the advanced builder, the Revell 1/25 scale ’57 Ford Del Rio Ranch Wagon plastic model kit provides terrific detail. Opting for separate parts allows for sharp delineation rather than the soft hints that often happen, especially on undersides, suspensions, and interiors. It’ll take longer to build, but the extra time is well worth the effort. If you’re after a restomod look, you’ll want to add this kit to your collection.
